Marriage Counseling For One |
|
Perhaps you know someone in this situation. Their marriage is in trouble, yet their spouse is unwilling to acknowledge the problems and/or unwilling to work on them. This deadlock seems so common today . If nothing is done, these marriages often spin into divorce. There is a tragic misperception, which causes some spouses to choose to do nothing, while waiting for the other spouse to be willing to start marriage counseling
There is hope. If only one spouse will begin to make the changes they need to make, the marriage will often begin to change. Marriage is a system. Just like a chemical reaction. Change one chemical and the result will be different. This is not a message to blindly ignore another spouses behavior. It is a method to help individual spouses focus on their own issues and make the changes God would have them make, seeking their own healing. We can get so overwhelmed with our pain and disappointment in our marriage, that we find it very hard to take the steps we need to take on our own.
What can be done? Ask God to show you how you need to change. Ask Him to begin to soften your heart. Look for forgiveness issues which may be blocking your life. Sometimes it is helpful to find a close friend or counselor who can help you in the process. Pray for God to show you the steps you need to take.
